My family and I (wife and son - 4 y.o.) are considering the life option to move in and live in Ireland, in an Irish farm, we are from Colombia (south america), and own a farm here, but different circumstances are giving us that idea. We lived in London for about 2.5 y, went to Ireland for a trip of about a month (many places in the middle part of Ireland, south middle), and met in London some Irish people who rapidly became good friends, and we got very much connected with that beautiful country and great people at a point that we thought that if we had or wanted to live abroad some day, it would be in a country and environment just like the Irish one. We cannot aford the idea of paying rent there, so we would like to start living there as farm workers, in a family of Irish farmers, and some day to have our own place there for good. I think we can provide a true passion for a country life, with all what it means. Just that for now, so please give us some recommendations. Thank you.

It was mentioned on one of the websites that only those who are on GNIB card (stamp 1 and stamp 4 are eligible for getting a Green Card. Stamp 1 = person who is legally working in Ireland on a work permit or work visa. Stamp 4 = person who is married to Irish citizen or is a refugee.
I have a job offer at a well known multinational company for electronics engineering and salary is above 30,000 Euros per year. They gave a job offer on the basis of my master's degree in engineering. At the moment I am doing my PhD and I am on student visa (stamp 2). When I start working full time, I would like to complete my PhD part time. The company applied for a Green Card and it was rejected since I am on stamp 2.
a] Does this mean that in order to get a green card, I have to apply for it at the Irish embassy in my home country ? b] Would a work permit be a safer option for me instead of the Green card ? How long would it take to get a work permit if my company is willing to apply for it.

We are trying to decide whether to tour the less-traveled Beara Peninsula or the Ring of Kerry. My thought is that since it is off-season, the Ring of Kerry might not be so overrun with tour buses/tourists.

Four of us, including my adventurous 80 year old grandparents will be renting a car in early October to see the Ring of Kerry or the Dingle Peninsula (or both?) What should we try to see? How long does it take to drive the Ring of Kerry. Where would you stay?

If you walk through the green channel on teh way back into Ireland and the Customs ask to inspect your case and find stuff what do they do?

Do they just charge you duty or will they confiscate the stuff (clothes, ipod and a camera for instance)?
