We have one full day & night in Paris and want to make the most of it. We've never been. Can you please share with us the following:

1) If you had one tourist thing to do, what would it be.
2)What's the best area to stay in for walking around and seeing the true Paris (whatever that may be!)
3)any good hotel recs? - under $500
4)any restaurant recs? - either really nice or low-key locals place.
5) What did you wish someone told you before visiting Paris.

I'm going to Paris over the weekend on a guided tour.
The Tour includes all the mayor sites i.e. The Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge and a Sienne River boat cruise.
On Saturday we have a free afternoon of maybe 3 hours.
I'll be in the city center. Are there any shops to visit or less well known sights or parks, that you in you're experiance would recommend this time of the year for a few hours in the afternoon.

You can't seriously mean that Frenchs' in general are good in english!!?? I know they're not. I lived there for 1 year. How come Scandinavians speak so good english compared to the Frensh people?

She needs it for all or part of three months, January, February, and March, She lives in a beautiful Home just out side of Paris. But is willing to trade for an apartment or even a studio Apartment. I know sometimes the "media" is right, but often they are wrong. People in France get a bad rap in America for many reasons. If you are from France, can you please tell me if Americans are really disliked there or is it a myth. I have been to Paris two times and have found the people there to be nice. I was never treated bad. Have things changed and or we really hated or what?
