Brazilian star Ronaldinho is set to be named FIFA's player of the year for a third successive time.

Marca Sports Daily claims Thursday the Barcelona star will be named the winner ahead of Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro and now-retired French great Zinedine Zidane at a ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland on December 18.

World Cup winning Italy defender Cannavaro recently won the European Footballer of the Year Award (Ballon d'Or), which is awarded by France Football magazine.

However Ronaldinho, the Ballon d'Or winner last year, would become the first player to win FIFA's award three years in a row.

Marca reported that Cannavaro finished second to the Brazilian in the FIFA voting, which is decided by the coaches and captains of all of FIFA's member nations. Zidane finished third, according to the paper.

Zidane and Brazilian striker Ronaldo have also won the FIFA accolade three times but no one has won it three years successively.

Why our football is better than their footbal:
(GO AMERICA!!!)
-Much better looking trophy given to the champions
-Overtime is sudden death ... first to score, wins
-Championships not decided by the random guessing game that is a penalty kick
-We won't have to wait another four years for a new Super Bowl champion
-No third-place game played before the Super Bowl
-The French aren't any good at our football
-Football has cheerleaders who wear revealing clothing
-No need to make apologies when you tell friends you're a football fan
-Players only carried off field on stretchers for real, serious injuries
-Our football players can use their hands, and feet, and whatever else they feel like using
-Preventive defense only played in final couple minutes, rather than 90 minutes
-A blowout isn't 2-0
-Fat guys can play
-There's no pretending to be hurt
-The U.S. would never lose to Ghana in a game of football
-Ties rarely ever happen
-There's no pretending to be fouled
ITS TRUE

Have you seen his goal celebrations lately??? Any opinions?
It didnt look like they were for the fans??? More like for the cameras?? And what's with the earrings and headband???
Maybe an attempt to sell his recently launched apparel brand???
Unlike Beckham this guy can really PLAY FOOTBALL
Is there a need for the catchy accessories and celebrations????

It is well documented that our version of football was established before soccer was ever played. Your ancestral barbarians were probably still kicking goat heads around any patch of grass that could be found. Back then, our rules allowed for more kicking of the ball than it is now, hence, the name "football" was attached. Some years later after soccer was being established, an Englishman who enjoyed association football decided to call it "soccer" so as to avoid confusion. It's a term which is marketed by YOUR companies, in YOUR countries, by YOUR teams, with YOUR money that is earned at YOUR games. We don't have it confused. I'm afraid it's you so called connoisseurs who have had it wrong for a great long time.

And by the way, I happen to enjoy football and soccer no matter where they are played. You might benefit from a little open-mindedness.

Hey brits- I want to take my brother to the UK for a week to see some football matches, I think I'd like to take him to matches in different leagues so I'm wondering the average ticket prices for
1) Non big 4 EPL
2) Coca Cola Championship
3) Lower English divisions

Secondly, do you typically scalp tickets at the gate or play it safe and buy ahead?

Thanks.

This is so sad ...Alessio Ferramosca and Riccardo Neri, both 17, were attempting to retrieve a ball while playing a game when they both drowned in the lake with waters at very cold temperatures.

Let's give our condolences to these players families!
