With the 10th anniversary of her death approaching and all the media coverage, it just got me wondering. I always admired her and loved to read about her, see pictures of her and still do. But I was just hoping there was someone on here who may have had the opportunity to see her in person or meet her, that could tell me if she was a kind or as beautiful as she always seemed. Thanks.

According to Wikipedia:

"The line of succession to the British Throne is an ordered list of the people in line to succeed to the throne of the United Kingdom. The succession is regulated by the Act of Settlement 1701, which limits it to the heirs of the Electress Sophia of Hanover, as determined by male-preference primogeniture, religion, and legitimate birth:

"A person is always immediately followed in the succession by his or her own legitimate descendants (his or her 'line'). Birth order and gender matter: older sons (and their lines) come before younger sons (and theirs); a person's sons (and their lines), irrespective of age, all come before his or her daughters (and their lines)."

The quoted reference and the complete list of "rules" can be found at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_of_succession_to_the_British_throne

Since the purpose of the list seems to be to honor the Electress Sophia of Hanover (female), why give preference to a male over a female?

I have heard that one of Mohamed's descendants married into the Spanish royal family during the early years of Islamic rule in Spain and Europe. It makes sense that this line is intermarried with the other European royal houses. Does anyone know of this?

i'm a history buff and i just got this question out of nowhere. I know that alot of the males go into the Royal Navy, Royal Marines or the Army, but aren't they mostly ceremonial units? i understand it would be stupid to risk someone that important on a REAL combat unit, but just out of curiosity, has there EVER been anything of that kind before, where a member of the Royal Family ever been promoted to a position, that's not just ceremonial???

From tv I've seen some "princes and princesses" from exiled royal family live in the US, and I've heard about other real royals living in the US part time or having internships, etc.

So why do you think these priveledged people are drawn to the US, especially to NYC, LA, and Washington DC?
