My girlfriend is away at school about a 8 hour drive away. I'm not wealthy so we've decided on me visiting her 3 times during her 4 month term. For convenience sake, I suggested that we have a special day for just the two of us on a different day than Valentine's day. It would work out better that way for many reasons; financially, workwise, etc. She also has reading week two weeks later (a week off from classes) so I figured we'd have more time together as well. Unfortunately, she did not like that suggestion at all. In fact, she almost considered it an insult to our relationship that I would consider not having our special day on valentine's day like everyone else. I wanted to do alot for her on our special day to show I care. But for some reason, because it's not on Saint Valentine's day, it's just not the same. Why so much importance on a specific day? Am I off base on this issue?
