Hi I need ideas (inc recipes) for a 3 course meal on valentines day in the theme of scotland.

My mum wants to cook my dad a nice meal in (he's from scotland) and wants any ideas.

I believe there is a venison? (spelling) dish but not sure how to cook etc....
Ideas!!!

Karthu pretty well sewed up the idea. Also agreed that haggis would be quite a grunge job.
My suggestion would be for your mum to find out what he likes, and then choose from there.

Well here is a couple of things for you to look at,
I'm Scottish and admit Venison (Deer) is very tasty.
I like to cook as a hobby, so suggest maybe

Barley/ mutton soup
Venison would be really nice or Scottish Salmon
Followed by a Deep Fried Mars bar-----only joking hehe

Home made rice pudding with some jam on top was always a favourite when I was a wee boy.....or custard with skin on top...that'll bring back memories of school days, served with Rhubarb...just get the frozen stuff and cook that as its not in season (Rhubarb crumble) another school fave...

There are quite a few things she could cook.

I would start with a Scotch Broth if he likes soup or a smoked salmon starter.

For the main I would go with either mince and tatties, steak pie or an aberdeen angus steak dish. As others have said, I wouldn't go for haggis. We don't actually eat it all that often and it's too much work.

For pudding she could do a clootie dumpling or a strawberry shortcake if she wants something a bit lighter.

Run with Steak Auld Reekie: basically its a steak fried off in whiskey and topped with smoked cheese there's a recipe here:

Start with small smoked fish (kipper or haddock will be fine) risotto and end with a deep fried mars bar (joke!), go with something simple like fresh vanilla icecream or Mackay's ice (the biggest gift my people have given the world) if your mum can't be bothered with a dash of Heather cream on top.

Enjoy!

depends on whether she is going for a romantic or traditional slant, romantic would be salmon or loch fyne oysters to start, aberdeen angus beef for main and wild scottish strawberries with shortbread and cream for pudding finishing with a nice choice of scottish cheeses, however if its a taste of home shes looking for scotch broth soup to start, mince and tatties and whatever his favourite pudding is would be more appropriate and contrary to what seems popular belief we dont really eat haggis very much!! she can go the whole hog and have a tartan table cloth and heather instead of flowers, whatever she does i hope he enjoys it

always start with a nice soup. look in cook books and look up which one looks tasty.

then a nice pasta with chicken in a white wine sauce goes down well.

finish off with fresh strawberries and cream.

i dont know the recipes or anything but best bet is to look in cookery books

There are some good recipes on http://www.rampantscotland.com/recipes/blrecipe_index.htm
Haggis requires a lot of grung work, not suggested.
