No question here, I just wanted to wish all a Happy and Safe Halloween. May the little ones have fun today and get lots of treats and may the bigger ones behave and let the little ones enjoy without having worries.

Why was the pagan festival of Halloween embraced so enthusiatically in the USA when such a large proportion of the population are fundamental christians?

Also, why has the UK followed suit but only in the last 15-20 years? We have always celebrated Halloween here, but it was never this big and commercial.

Always used to celebrate it when I was little. At 25, I want to keep the tradition going! But can't think beyond a curry and a DVD.

A very happy Samhain.

How do you celebrate Halloween?

Halloween is a pagan holiday that symbolizes a lot more than candy and costumes. It very such a spiritual issue especially when God clearly states: Have no other gods before Me and make no images of anything in heaven, earth or the sea, and do not worship or labor for them. You can argue Halloween doesn't mean anything it's just fun and dressing up to you but ask people who practice Wicca if it is all fun and games? You may not even believe in God and you would have to admit after doing your homework that Halloween is useless waste of time, money, and energy. Why waste when you can dress your kids up on any weekend and give them candy. Don’t take my word for it; do your own research. Always be real

I was under the impression that Halloween originated from something bad, but the responses that I read to other questions don't quite sound familiar. Was there some sort of ritual or something where officials would come into town dressed up to scare and harm the people living in the towns? Maybe it was a religious thing, I am not sure. I am sorry I do not have more information. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
