I was just wondering if anyone knew where the 'horizontal eight' symol for infinity originate/come from? Thanks in advance!

We have to build a device for science which will increase the speed which an ice cube melts. The focus is radiation, conduction and convection.

In physics one often models a system using linear equations...not because the system IS linear, but because these equations can be solved!
Isn't this a fatal flaw?...wouldn't physicists be better off doing Economics? At least everyone knows that it is a deceit

Interesting reading about Tesla. He created "free energy" and the government shut him down (for lack of a better term) I'd like to get your opinions on the subject.

Every so often, you hear about someone creating cold fusion in their kitchen or bath tub and as soon as you hear about it, the/that story disappears.

Your thoughts or experiences please ?

1) what is the impulse due to a force rthat causes the speed of a 46 g golf ball to change from 0 to 60.0 m/s in 0.50ms?

2) A 0.250 kg ball of Plasticine moving 5.0 m/s overtakes and collides with a 0.3000 kg ball of Plasticine, traveling in the same directiion at 2.0 m/s. The 2 balls of Plasticine stick together pm collison. What is their speed after the collision.

3) A 4.2 kg rifle shoots a 0.05 kg bullet at a speed of 3.00 * 10^2 m/s. At what speed does the rife recoil?

4) A railroad car of mass 12,000kg is traveling at a speed of 6.0 m/s when it collies with an identical car at rest. Thte two cars look together. What is their common speed after the collision?

5) What impuse is needed to change the speed of a 10 kg object from 1.6 m/s to 25.5 m/s in a time of 5s. How much force is needed?

It would be awesome to show the steps...
Once again, ty so much.........

We've had this technology since Tesla discovered it. The Navy started dabbling with the "Philedalphia Experiment."
Why do the Governments continue to withhold this information?

the horizontal, how far will the water reach neglecting air resistance?
treat the the water as u would an individual object.
(hint: use your vector skills to break the velocity into its two components: the amount of velocity acting straight upwards will ditermine how long the object is in the air, the componient acting, the componient acting horizontally wiill ditermine how far it travels in that time)

Some were 20+ floors below the collapse point witch was falling at free fall speed.
If you disagree with the speed than lets just assume it was slightly less than free fall speed. Either way there was little or no resistance.
So what caused the squibs?

If the Sun and the Moon are responsible for the tides on the Earth, why don't I see tides on a glass of water left untouched on the kitchen counter for 24 hours? Shouldn't my glass of water show the effects of the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun, just like the oceans?
