When I attempt to use linear approximation to solve for sin(47) I get a completely incorrect answer...

Here is what I did

sin(47) ~= sin(45) + cos(45)(47-45)

= (sqrt(2) / 2) + ( sqrt(2) / 2 )*(2)

= (3*sqrt(2)) / 2

= 2.12

Which is totally wrong... what am I missing?

These are the 2 problems:
x-5y= -1
-2x+5y=-3

You need to find out the X and Y variables. There was no matrix or determinant, so I'm not sure how to do it. I tried doing it without them, and I got (-20, 1), but those numbers are wrong. If you know how to figure out this problem, please describe how you got it, so I can finish the rest of my homework.

I have to find a general rule that will work for the pattern below:

(4^3) - (2^2)=60
(5^3) - (3^2)=116
(6^3) - (4^2)=200
(7^3) - (5^2)=318
(8^3) - (6^2)=476

i have figured out this bit...

60 116 200 318 476
....56 84 118 158
........28 34 40
..............6 6

but i can't figure out the rule..

Here's the question:

f(x)=x^2-5

find (f(x+h)-f(x))/h

I don't understand how to do these complicated ones. The ones we did before were like f(x)=3x+5 find f(-2). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Solve the equation without using logarithms.

1. 4^5x = 16^2x-1

Solve the equation, First express your answer in terms of natural logarithms (For instance, x=(2+ 1n 5) / (1n 3)). Then use a calculator to find an approximation for the answer.

2. 2^x = 3^x-1

3. e^2x = 5

Please show all work and formula used to get this answer.
