The formula I have to go by with the ABYC is normally 3.142xR² to know the circle's circumference, but what I am having a hard time with is this, doing it in reverse. Ok, here's where I come into the Land of Confusion (a great Phil Collins/Genesis song btw). Let's say to find the circumference of an 8 inch circle I go with (R)4² = 16 * 3.142 = 50.27 inches. But in reverse by dividing 16 by 3.142 I get 5.1 as my radius.

The reason why I need to know this madness, is that I am trying to find out what a non-circular geometrical shape's circular diameter. For example, a triangle with three sides of equal size (3 inches) would give me the circumference reference of the circle, but not its diameter.

I must have slept in my Geometry class back in 1985 and missed this one. Proofs and Theorims were my bane of existence in those horrible days of mullets running amok!

If you can show me the correct formula, you will earn 10 brownie points. :) Everyone loves brownies right?

I was soo expecting an A for my class, I don't understand how I got a B. My teacher provided me with the syllabus as an explanation, but that still doesn't help me: Here are my grades:

84.78 -- Test 1
60 -lowest grade is dropped --Quiz 1
62.5 --- quiz 2
100 ---quiz 3
87.5 --- Test 2
100 --- quiz 4
89.47 ---Test3
80 ---- quiz 5
100 ---- quiz 6
70 ----- quiz 7
-----------------------------
774.25/9 = 86.02 without extra credit points and/or
extra 10 points for being the only person to make 100% on quiz 3.
Extra credit is worth 3-5 points per question and I did 21
questions, so even if I only got the minimum of 3 points for each question I should still get atleast a 90 which is an A.
So I'm really not sure how my average/grade turned out
to be 87.27%

Quizzes = 40%
Tests 1, 2, 3 = 30% each

So can you please help me figure out what my grade should be. Is it really a B?

Problem:
The volume of a rectangular box is 12cm^3. It has a square base and its height is 1 cm more than its width. Find the dimension of the box.

Assumptions:
let x=measurement of one side of the square base.
and x+1cm= the height

Since the volume of a rectangular box is LWH. L=W because it has a square base. My solution would be:
LWH=12cm^3
x*x(x+1cm)=12cm^3

Then,
x^3 + (x^2)cm =12cm^3
x^3 + (x^2)cm = 12cm^3
x^3 + (x^2)cm - 12cm^3=0

I don't know what will be the next step....

Are my assumptions and solution wrong?
Could anybody give me any alternative way on solving this problem. Thanks alot again. =D
