I mean here am I thinking that might be a nice way to allow mother earth to build up some highly condensed pressure and then just when it's time to release a little pressure the volcanoe will just start launching thousand pound cement balls all over the island? What are they thinking?

Given two dates and a latitude, is it possible to calculate (or accurately estimate) (1) the total amount of daylight / night time between these two days, and (2) the average amount of daylight / night time between the two dates? Any suggestions?! Help much appreciated. Please site your sources, if possible.

I'm assuming that collecting solar energy essentially "robs" the earth of the energy from sunlight. If this solar energy was used on a much larger scale, what effect would it have on the earth? Perhaps lower global temperature?
