I'm working on a biology lab, trying to analyse the data, etc., and having trouble coming up with the slope of the results. The graph is the concentration of ortho-quinone as a measure of light absorbance (using a photospec) over time. The lab dealt with tyrosinase reacting with a catechol substrate, so ortho-Q was the product. Basically we were just measuring the rate of the reaction, which is the slope of the line (we tested the sample in the spec every 30s for 10 mins). MY PROBLEM IS...I'm unsure of the units to use to get the slope. If I use delta-X in seconds (600) and delta-y in percentage (about 40%), I get a different slope than if I use minutes and decimals between 0 and 1. What should I do? I'm just a bio student, not a scientist or anything, and I haven't been in school in years so my math certainly needs work, I guess...Any help is appreciated, and if you need to see the actual graph and data table (Excel file), let me know and I'll email. Thanks!

No matter our race, we're all homosapiens (sp?). But is our race classified as our "variety?" If so, what are the scientific names of the different races/varieties?

Hey everyone, I have a genetics problem that I've been working on for a couple hours and have been coming up with nothing. So here's the question:

Fat mice can be produced by 2 independently assorting genes. The recessive genotype ob/ob produces a fat sterile mouse called "obese." Its dominant allele Ob produces normal growth. The recessive genotype ad/ad also produces a fat, sterile mouse called "adipose" and its dominant allele Ad produces normal growth. What phenotypic proportions of fat versus normal would be expected among the F1 and F2 from parents of genotype Ob/ob, Ad/ad?

I have to do an experiment for my biology class on plants. I am going to test the growth on a seed with different soil and fertilizers. I would like to know which seed will grow or bloom the fastest. I will compare the color, the growth, and which one grew the healthiest. I will have some outside and some inside. The thing is I have to do several experiments with the plants. Thank you.
