Could someone please tell me what the significance of complementary base pairing in the conservation of the basic sequence of DNA is. As much information asap would be appreciated. Thanks.

Because A always base pairs with T and G always pairs with C, a single strand of DNA has all the information needed to specify the unique sequence of the other strand. So, when DNA is replicated, the two strands separate, and each serves as the template for the synthesis of a new second strand.
