Today’s Indian women are excelling in every field and many have carved niche for themselves for which they have to be lauded. For all the rapid progress women might have made today but the position of women in society has still to improve a lot. A handful of urban achievers are no indication of liberated or self-sufficient women. Before celebrating the International Women’s Day it is imperative that we should delve into issues concerning the attitude of today’s modern women and the problems faced by millions of women.

It is imperative that the women realize that a fight for equal rights needs to be on the right track too. Today’s women should not feel privileged having a section of their own – “ladies only”. If they talk about gender equality and equal rights then should stop asking for reservations in Parliament, in trains, in buses, etc. They should receive their rights by dint of their achievements. A thorough introspection is essential for any claims to enter the competitive arena. For to what extent can courtesy of the men be stretched- ugly wrangles and brash behaviour will not bring approbation or cover up their inadequacies – as will not sexual segregation. If the women want to prove their selves, they have to battle out fair and square, following the same rules that men do. Not taking advantage of the fact of being someone’s wife, daughter (reflected glory) or taking advantage of a weak women-partial bureaucratic system and certainly not by sleeping with their bosses to further their career.

Today’s liberated single woman is someone who puts her career first, until she is at least 40 when she gets married and has kids. That’s when she realizes that it’s difficult to have kids at this age and even if she has kids but the ease with which she might have managed the kid when she was in her twenties or even thirties is impossible when she is in her forties. More and more of women are being career minded. This can lead to neglect of other things like human relationships. Once these women have nothing more left to achieve they suddenly realize that they have become too old and that’s when they start missing a life partner. Casual relationships in this period are simply not good enough to sustain. Such relationships are no substitute for a meaningful and long lasting relationship. Soon loneliness sets in and that’s when they realize their folly. But it is too late for them. Yes, they would have achieved everything in life – money, career, top positions, material gains, everything. The only thing they will miss is quality life. It’s all very well to be a modern woman but it irritates me no end when women shred their dates to pieces because they dared to open a door or pull out a seat for them out of common courtesy. For an equal balance in the world it is essential that women remain women and not turn into aggressive libbers.

The marriage-motherhood-career syndrome can have serious repercussions that could attack the women, affect the society and emotionally attack the husband and children. Have these women figured out how would they meet the challenges of marriage and motherhood at home and employment outside. Can they handle the ego of husband and upbringing of children to everyone’s satisfaction? Can any woman combine marriage, motherhood and a career without doing herself or her family any harm?

I say nay until they star doing their job of informing the people and stop-bashing bunch.

Sure bush is a dip and a piss poor leader but all they do is bash him. They hardly ever say any thing positive, its always negative and counter productive. Also they are always biased against white people, not that’s bad but they need to report equally on every one, their job is to inform us and yes they are doing that but they are not giving us every bit of information and that’s what we need not 20% or 49% or 80% but 100%.
