I'm with you on some points. Most of the media is extremely liberal. We need more variety. More extreme conservatives and mainstream. That and tack on the fact that because of "freedom of the press," no one keeps tabs on them to make sure they report the WHOLE story in an unbiased way. I have yet to watch a news report on anything even close to a political or social issue that is not left or right biased. I just want the straight facts. ALL OF THEM.

Freedom of the press is critical in a true democracy. After all, the government is supposed to belong to the people and a transparent government is important in that respect. With that said, journalists need to report facts, and seek out the truth and deliver that. It is not supposed to be about opinion or spin, on either side. The public is not stupid, and should be trusted with the true factual information and given the opportunity to form their own opinions and conclusions based on the facts.
I'd rather not hear any news than to hear these 'journalists' giving their personal opinions and reporting it as truth.

Yay to informing the public for its own health and well being. Yay to more coverage of positive events and differences people are trying to make.
Nay to the press for its bashing. Nay to its disregard for personal privacy. Nay to it for its deliberate sway of political propeganda. Nay to it for giving any opinion what so ever, keep to the facts which have certifiable evidence.

I think freedom of the press is necessary, but should be more balanced. For every reporter with a liberal bent, one is needed with a conservative bent. It's just too much to hope for to find anyone who is completely politically neutral. It's impossible in this politically-charged atmosphere in which we live. Furthermore, even if the reporters could manage neutrality, there are many lines of editors through whom the story must pass on its way to publication.
