WHY? why do doctors feel the need to pump you full of drugs rather than find the underlying problem?

I am currently on 3 different painkillers that I'm supposed to be taking and yet they dont run any tests to find out what's going on!!! They just keep telling me to come back in a week and see if it's got any better, when it hasn't they give me more pills!I'm tired of pills I want results! Any one else run into these problems when they go to the doctors?I've been to a regular and a specialist!
