The song Big Yellow Taxi Has Nothing to do with a a taxi, White Room has nothing to do with a white room, Brass in Pocket never mentions any brass in anyones pocket, Clocks talks about everything besides clocks. Why do songwriters do this?

Yes, I know this is kind of an old song but my friend can't get it out of her head and knowing all of the words gets it out of her head for some reason. Also, don't be stupid and ask "Why can't she ask the question?" because she is not a member of Yahoo! and we are only kids and she is not allowed to join.
