Does anyone out there know or remember whether the "Tom & Jerry" cartoons were shown to mostly black audiences? I know there's a recurrent character who's the black "lady of the house", and that those wouldn't likely have been shown to white audiences at the time (1940's)... I'm also wondering if the black woman's voice was done over for the Cartoon Network, etc. I've watched these for my whole life, and somehow I remember her voice being different when I was younger... (I'm 30).

Cartoon Network/Adult Swim hired a guerilla marketing agency to promote "Aqua Teen Hunger Force". They made up this magnetic light up sign with a picture of one of the Mooninites giving the finger. They put the sign up in 10 cities, including Boston.

However, the Boston Police freaked out, thought it was a terrorist attack, sealed off much of the city and had the Bomb Squad take the signs down! The two men who put the signs up in Boston got locked up and Cartoon Network was forced to apologize to the City of Boston.

Do you think the Boston Police overreacted?

And do you think that Cartoon Network really should have apologized?
