How stupid would you have to be to mistake one of those for a bomb? They are frickin' two dimensional **signs**! I expect to see a team of bomb technicians dismantling my street light next. OMG, mommy, it's a stop sign ahead! Are we gonna die?
They put them up here in Portland, too. On the news they interviewed some coffee store people that found one stuck to their building three weeks ago. They nicknamed it "Elmer" and, shockingly, went on with their lives with no ill consequences!
Difference between the NE and the NW, I guess.
BTW, you can pick up one for your very own on eBay now.

Yes-police got way to excited over this. And no Cartoon Network doesn't need to keep apoligizing over this. It is over. It is funny, no doubt there, but move on. It made the Boston PD look bad for blowing up light brights with a finger flipping Mooninite on it. Not to mention that it took 10 days for them to see a problem with the things-yeah I feel safer now!
--and the marketing folks don't deserve jail for this!!! I doubt any other fun ads like this will pop up again, lesson learned-cops can't take a joke-everyone just move on!

Basically Boston cops overreacted and had to save face. They got showed up publicly. The news papers knew about teh stunt obviously. Cartoon network took the high road to apologize, but they didnt ahve to .If the cops had called the paper conpany who puts the stuff in the paper, they could ahve avoided the embrassment by ten fold. the moral is check all alternatives before you go in on a situtation blazing

Well, it’s a judgement call. We’re not responsible for other people’s phobias, but we are responsible not to provoke other people’s anxieties if we know about them. Boston is where the planes that caused all the 9-11 destruction took off from, and they are hyper vigilant. Better safe than sorry.
If we start saying NOW that it is all right to have electronic pictures of cartoon characters flashing around town without anybody knowing who put them there or what they were doing, then the terrorists will start using something like that to conceal their IED’s and presto! Boston turns into Baghdad!
Is this what you want…? Or, do you think that if it happens, people would let you off because you start saying, “That’s not what I meant!”…?
It’s the JOB of police to overreact! And an apology is the very least that CN could have done. If there had been any injuries, say, due to a panic, they would be in for some large lawsuits. An apology costs nothing except your pride. If they’re too proud to apologize, they’re too proud for me to watch any more. You have to draw the line somewhere.

personally, i think the cops overreacted. i also think cartoon network did the right thing by apologizing because the blinking lights caused public panic. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that those blinking lights are cartoon characters. if someone had put a VCR or a huge piece of candy on the street corner. i, m pretty sure they would have called it a bomb.

I'd say that the Boston Police Department overreated, and made the arrests to keep themselves from looking TOTALLY stupid. I don't think that Cartoon Network should have apologized - they didn't do anything wrong.

Does any of these people have teenagers? Have they ever seen a ******* lite brite?
This just shows the stupidity of government. 15 minutes and a couple of phone calls could have prevented all of this.
I think TBS owes Boston for vandalism and that is it. They should not have to pay for Boston's idiocy.

I heard about it. I do indeed believe they overreacted. Nope, I dont think Cartoon Network should have apologize. Conservatives are making a big deal out of this.
