I've seen Lars and Dave talk to each other on S.K.O.M. It is one of the most emotional interviews I've seen. You hear Dave-The-Jerk Mustaine talking about how he felt to be kicked out of his band. He agrees that he is dangerous, but he felt bad seeing Metallica go through so many years of success, and they never addressed him as part of their success. The band wakes him up in the middle of the night to tell him he was out. No warning. No second chance.
Metallica was his extended family. He sold everything to join that band. And it ended. Other than his mom, James and Lars were his family. They shared dreams. There was no way to say what was going on with his drinking problem.
How he acted when he was drunk was very different from when he was drunk. They never gave it a chance. It probably would've worked. When you go down to the violence, it's his nature. He's over-protective of the people he loves. Like once, some guy named Phil hurt Lars. And Phil got a broken leg from Dave.
