I ask this question in light of the new movie "Flyboys," which comes out tomorrow and which I plan on seeing.
I don't know if many people are aware but a lot of movies set in the past take a lot of liberties with the truth; facts are distorted, characters are made-up, etc. A good example is the film "Memphis Belle" (1990). It was good entertainment, and there really was a bomber plane in WWII with that name that successfully completed its requirement of 25 missions on May 17, 1943. But after that, NOTHING in that film is fact! The entire crew, mission, and story were made up for the movie. In fact, the real plane still exists and was never shot up as the movie portrays.
My question here is, do many of you see these films- films like "The Patriot," "Remember the Titans," "Glory," "Pearl Harbor," and "Saving Private Ryan" many of which are very entertaining, and believe they are 100% true stories?
