"The free performances at Metropolitan State by the Minnesota Sinfonia are thanks to a grant from the Anna M. Heilmaier Charitable Foundation. " is what the article reads.

'Are thanks to a grant'? How do I word this to make it sound more proper? Or am I just critiquing this too much?

It's a hard language because it is so confusing, especially when written down. Example: The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.....Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.....What is an intresting one you can come up with?

Is it true that most Americans think the word 'irony' means 'made of iron'? As in this sentence: " The carpenter's nails were very irony and so too was his hammer - except for the hammer's handle which was woody."

Or:

"The carpenter's nails were not irony but were made of hardened steel. The irony was lost on the carpenter."
