I started seeing this problem about 4 years ago. People "lose" things (as in lost). People do not "loose" things (as in not tight). I even saw this error in an AP news report. Why can't we spell?

Which is correct, Orienting or Orientating? Or, which is correct, disorienting or disorientating? As in, "being lost in the jungle, can be very disorientating" are they both correct or is each used for a different context....

That's what I was taught growing up. & then during my Sr. yr. in high school, our English teacher said that trifing is not a word.
