I have recently come across this phrase "it's down to us" - which i suppose it means the same as " it's up to us". I am just wondering how common it is used and if it's more on written English or spoken English?

Hi everyone! I really need some adjectives and verbs that describe the following:

* Army/Military: This can be ANYTHING from what they wear to how they march, to how they take commands. The more different, the better.

* A river: Same as above. Anything to describe a river from how fast it flows, to color, etc.

* Words that could be used to describe them as 'one', so it is not clear whether I'm referencing the army or a river.

I'm working on a piece right now, where I need for the river and the army to be viewed as the same thing, not two separate things. For instance, in 'The Lottery' by Shirley Jackson gives you a perception that it's a normal day and everything is rainbows and lollipops, but it's not like that at all. I am working on something in which I hope to capture the same shock value, so I need for them to be one thing.

THANKS!!

Near my home is a business called Yoxagoi Orchards. Do you have any idea what the word "Yoxagoi" means or if it actually is a word in any language? Or is it a last name? Or . . .?

ok i kind of know what barrier means, but what would it mean when it's being used in this sentence?
It is usually easy to do homework in class because Mr. Stetman’s voice creates a gentle, white-hoise sound barrier.
