I usually think of fast food chains for snacks/lunch, but what about breakfast? Who has the best?

I recently had a really late meal with a couple of friends at an all nite diner @ midnite. When we sat at our table, we were informed that after 11 pm, there was an automatic 20% gratuity added to the check. We were fine with this since we did have a party of 6. After our hostess left, we waited almost 45 min for the waitress to come and take our drink order and bring the drinks even after asking another waitress to find ours. We then ordered our food and it took almost another 45 min to recieve that. We ate our food and it was very good to say the least, but our waitress never showed back up to refill our drinks or see how we were doing. We finally had to ask someone else to bring us our check. Now on our check, we noticed that the "added" gratuity was almost $20. We were told we had to pay it. Is this true? Did she deserve that large a tip no matter what her service was like?Maybe she had a bad day but i dont think thats any excuse. What do you all think?

There were two Shakey's Pizza & Buffets near me when I was growing up. Now there are none, but I saw a Shakey's Pizza in Acapulco on vacation. But not a buffet. Anyone know where one with a buffet is?
Part 2 of this question is for anyone who ever worked at one- I used to love the meatballs & gravy. Any idea where they got them from? I know they weren't homemade..
Thanks!!

I had lunch with my co-workers, about 6 of us, and we started discussing a former employee that would order steak and lobster while the rest of the party would purchase salads and sandwiches. At the end of the lunch, my co-workers split the bill 6 ways...even. When the former employee would go with them to lunch, he never said anything about paying the extra amount. I said to my co-worker that the crowd should have said something to him. She told me that it would be rude to ask him to pay the extra. What is the correct answer?

I have been in the service industry for 7 years and am AMAZED that not everyone knows the 'standard' tip percentages for waiters and bartenders in the united states. Standard pay ranges between $2.13-$3.00 and HOUR, just enough to cover half of the taxes taken out. MY QUESTION... DO YOU know what the standard tip range is for resturant service??? (and i understand if the waiter SUCKS, then thie tip will go down, but i'm asking for good to exellent service)

A normal restaurant booth is just big enough for plump but not overweight people, and as time goes by,more and more people are getting bigger and bigger in this country.I think the time will come when restaurant booths which are more confortable than tables, will be replaced with giant tables and chairs

When entering an establishment, you should be acknowledged, but that rarely happens. Customers are often treated as if they are bothering the workers. This seems to be a trend, and I wondered what might be the cause??

I have waited tables and I tip, but I am beginning to resent that I must tip the customary 15% plus if I got good service. When I already pay sky high prices for food and should be served well since I am there and paying, why do I then need to give a gift higher than taxes on my wages? I think the tip should come out of the already high cost, and resteraunt owners should pay better. What do you think?
