As I know, there is no "differential" in trains. How do they mange curves and turns? There must be something with the wheels.

I'm looking for a website that has rail statistics for the US and Canada that shows such things as carloads, freight volume per year, passenger stats, etc. Also, are there any databases that show the yearly usage of branch lines? There's a few seldom used short lines that I'd love to see the stats on. Thanks - Lance

as opposed to others with crew compartmen behind. The info. given was,it was designed this way because of long tunnels it
went thru and crews didn"t have to be overcome by smoke.

At the moment I am using uncoupling ramps which work okay, except when you want to pick up a wagon after uncoupling it, it automatically uncouples it self when you go over the ramp again. Does anyone know of any other devices or ideas of what I can use?

I would be interested in any recollections by Yahoo users able to remember travelling on a Pullman Train. Or in information about what they were like.

This is a serious enquiry, not about jokes about Pullman trains like the only "Similar Question" that came up when I was writing this.

Does any one have any idea what types (diesel, steam etc.) or model #'s/types might have been used in the Newfoundland railway trains when it was operational back in the early 1900's?

My friend skiped the fair on the DLR for ONE STOP, a police officer came over, took her details and said she might go to court and get a criminal record FOR SKIPING ONE MEASLY STOP LOL. Anyway, can anyone tell me what is most likely to happen to her? Will she most likely be going to court or will she be more likely to end up with a fine and if so, how much etc...

Is it a certain point on the track or controlled from the locomotive itself?

Back when I was a young, stupid little hoodlum, we'd always try to get them to come down. We'd heard to put something heavy on the tracks or jump on them, put a wire across, etc.

I know it's totally random but it's one of those burning questions I've always had.

i'm trying to figure out how many years it took the railroad industry in the US to "come together" so that trains could ride on all networks in the USA without having to worry about the tracks not fitting the trains... any help is appreciated

How long typically does it take after the testing and interviews for BNSF to contact you and let you know if they are offering you a position or not. I interviewed 4 weeks ago for a conductors position in Birmingham, AL and have heard nothing so far. This interview is for a class that is starting in May. I sent an email and was told I passed the tests and that nobody has been eliminated so far.

Trains travel on tracks. Train tracks. Very distintinctive things in nature they are, so I can never comprehend when some unfortunate soul gets "accidentally" hit by a train. Wouldnt you have to be doing it on purpose? Any train victims want to defend themselves? Also, cars dont stall on train tracks. Just doesnt happen. The chances of your car stalling on one of the few train tracks on the planet are next to nothing. And if that does happen, get out of the car. Simple survival skills.
