Cumnock (original) railway station was a railway station serving the town of Cumnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland. The station was originally part of the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway.

History
The station opened on 20 May 1850 as Old Cumnock. It was renamed Cumnock on 10 January 1955, and closed to passengers on 6 December 1965.

Hi Clair, it may come as a surprise to some but there is more than 1 train station in Scotland, can you at least give the City or Town you are wanting the name off. At a guess I think it is possibly Edinburgh Waverly Station you are asking about and the station close by is Grassmarket

In fact, despite what is said in some answers, there are no 'train stations' in Scotland. Rather there are many 'railway stations' (but far fewer than there used to be). 'Train station' is an awful americanism which was never heard in the UK until a very few years ago.

"the train station in Scotland" is called "the train station in Scotland" in Scottish-English.
I guess "the ones that are near by" are called "the station near by".
Don't know how it's said in the Gaelic, though.

Sorry, couldn't resist

I think you are referring to AUCHINLECK, which is about three miles north of Cumnock.

A station on this line cannot easily be constructed at Cumnock, as the line sweeps to the east of the town on the very high Glaisnock Viaduct.

The next station to the south of Cumnock is at New Cumnock, but even this is a good half-mile north of the centre of the town.
