My entire family is selling this week. My co-workers are transferring their 401K portfolio to money market and guarnteed investment funds. I ride the train down town in Chicago, and the traders that I ride with all told me they are getting out this week. They said they are going to selloff their personal stocks over the course of the next few weeks? I'm worried about retirement. Should I sell everything before it is too late?

The media seems to pick up this "credit crunch" phrase as a way of summing up the downturn in many housing markets. In my view "valuation problem" would more acurately describes the situation.

I'm not pretending to be a genius, but I think this is simple. In the long-term (think decades) homes prices must average a ratio to medium household income; when this get's out of whack, it just has to come back to norm. Easy credit may be the cause, but "lack of credit" is not the problem. Investors make reasonable calculations when making loans, if they don't,,, well, they learn quick not to be a sucker. Anyway would you agree "housing valuation" should trump news headlines in regard to the housing market, not "credit crunch"?
Thoughtful replies apreciated.

Is there any way to find out? If it were possible for the average guy to make a living this way, almost everyone would be doing it. You would have millions of people quitting their jobs and selling their houses, cashing in their 401(K)'s to do it.

I know there was a lot of day trading in the late 90s and most of them probably got wiped out when the bubble burst in 2000.

What about now though?

Im in a pickle here, i was looking at the stock TMY, they have bidders for a buyout, the stock trades at 2.00 and a realistic buyout is between 5-7 dollars which is a good little profit. My question is:

This company only has options til Jan 08, so with a buyout planned at $6 should i load up on the Jan 08 calls at 5.00? they are only about .10 pps , my only problem is if a deal gets done at the end of this month, how long would it take to close. and for the mere chance it got done and didnt close in time, would the options still go up?

say if 'X' options were granted at 'D' dollars. Now when the share price becomes say 'D+10' dollars, the company announces a 2 to 1 split making the proce ('D+10')/2 $ . This for sure is less than the 'D' that was initially granted. How is this situation handled?
