There's no difference. When you make a trade, you want it done as fast as possible, and at the best price possible. The on-line discount broker is just as fast or faster than some overpaid "premium broker." The discount broker will also find exactly the same price as the premium broker. It's all done electronically now, and no one has any advantage in executing trades.

The discount broker often depends on the client to do his own research and he then carries out the trade. As far as the execution quality it is the brokerage house that determines the quality.
