Hey guys, I'm 19 years old and am planning on investing $1,000 into the stock market. The hardest part about this is: Where do I begin? Are there any sites where I can open a portfolio free of charge or with a small fee, such as e-trade? Are there any websites that I can use as a step-by-step guide till I collect some dividends? (haha)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

My 20s were good to me...many memorable trips and fiascos :)

Now, I'm 32 with a lovely wife and 4 kids. College $ comes to mind; not to mention, the wife still loves her trips to the promised land (Vegas). I'm clueless to the market, mutual funds, and all the other CD mumbo-jumbo. I have a modest income of 40k/yr and a 401k at 15%/yr. Not enough to stay afloat and invest aggresively.

I need a cluebook that will give me info to 'safe bets' or directions to creating a balanced nest egg for all involved.

I wrote a covered call by using the "sell to open" choice. I bought stocks a week ago for $25 and I wrote the covered call for $30 and it expires in March. The premium I got on the option was $.90 a share which came out to $90. After the transaction was complete, my cash value in my account went up $90. However, why did the value in my balances/positions go down by $100?

Thanks.

My husband and I want to invest in a market that will have a monthly return. We have been discouraged lately as the markets in Southern California, Arizona, Utah and Idaho are too expensive. Is there an area of the U.S. that is better?

When a company holds an IPO it sells a determined amount of stock and receives the money as capital to use in growing the business. So how does a company benifit from their stock price increasing when they have already received the proceeds from the sale?
