I recently watched a programme on BBC TV about the Gunfight at the OK Corrall. The programme attempted to de-mythologise the incident and was historically based, using transcripts of the murder trial against the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday which followed the shoot out. I was interested to see that the (not guilty) verdict was brought in by the judge alone, sitting without a jury. Was that normal practise at the time? Was it anything to do with the fact that Arizona was still a territory, rather than a state?

I'm interested in this, both as a retired lawyer and because my mother's elder sister was married to a Mr. Earp! But in Norlfolk, England!

could you guys point out which era the West outpowered the remaining world, and how could it be possible?

-Middle East
Ancient Persia was as powerful as Rome...(possibly stronger on their best days). Islam Empire had been way superior to Europe in every way during 8th~14th century.

-China & India
Since fall or Rome Empire, China and India had been the most powerful, rich, advanced (technolony), and populated countries in the world. Only Islam empire at their highest could outpower these two Asian giants

-----------------------------------------------------------
The west was hardly a civilization compared to above those three...Until the Renaissance (14th~16th century), the west was even inferior to easter Europe, which was also born by succeeding Rome...

I bet nobody in the world (not even Europeons themselves) could expect Europe to be the superpower qonquering the whole world....how could this be possible?

My Opinion

1.Jesus - founded the most popular religion, Christianity.

2.Muhammad - founded the 2nd popular religion, Islam.

3.Columbus - discovered Ameica and motived Europe to be the ruling continent of the world

4.Newton - father of modern science.

5.Buddha - He did the same role what Jesus played in India...Don forget Buddism is the 3rd popular religion next to Christianity and Islam.

6.Lun Tsai - invented paper

7.Genghis Khan - buildt the biggest empire ever and conneded Asia, Middle-East, and Europe

8.Confu - Founded Chinese value and philosophy. His books are possibly the most read books in history...

9.Johannes Gutenberg - his invention resulted the beginning of enlightment era, death of feudalism, and birth of Protestantism. Not to mention that people could finally read books, thks to him.

10.Saint Paul - the author of most of New Testament

I need to find some background information about this meeting - colour (eg the food, the decor, the staff etc)
Hitler had just been released from prison - he was refounding the Nazi party.

Can anyone help me find more details, or descriptions of a similar venue (same sort of time / place) that I could adapt?

Thank you!

I have read many places that the Spartans were killed off. I have tried to look it up to find out what happened, but was unsuccessful.. I read about Epaminondas ending the Spartan supremacy, but didn't say anything about killing them off. Is this how it happened? Or was it something else?

I am trying to understand the concept of manorialism, where the manors are self sufficient.

Since there was a church on each manor, did the priests also live on the manor?

Also, was there one larger church, where members of different manors would all meet up?
