Just returned from a trip to the xmas markets and while there noticed that loads of shops and companies have bears standing outside with their arms in the air (not real bears obviously!!!) and wondered why.

I'm visiting Berlin and just had a lovely dinner out where our waiter explained that the bill included service but not the tip. This confused us and we had different opinions about whether and how much to tip for the excellent services. Before we dine out tonight, could someone help me understand the difference so we can avoid the confusion?

I know an American who traveled to Germany recently, and someone asked him if he was ashamed to be an American right now He answered with, "No, I'm proud to be an American. Immigrants are fighting to get in my country, not out." He then asked the man if he was ashamed to be a German, after what the German's did to the Jews during WW2.

I'll put this in "Berlin" in case anyone there (or elsewhere) can give a serious answer to a serious question This country is INSANE, allowing smokers virtually everywhere. Businesses are losing MORE customers than they will ever have by continuing to tolerate smoking ADDICTS ruining other people's meals. Most people I know don't even eat out because of this. Mothers and fathers think NOTHING of feeding their filthy ADDICTIVE habit in the presence of their kids, even infants! WHO is going to intervene, and WHEN? There is no doubt in my mind that CRACK ADDICTS kill FAR less people than weak-willed and selfish smokers ever will! WAKE UP, Germany!!! Even other EUROPEANS were disgusted when they visited the World Cup here. The amount of smoking is barbaric and NEVER takes the rights of the non-smoking MAJORITY (although sometimes I wonder) into consideration. Aren't any EXTREMELY strict laws forthcoming regarding this addictive insanity? And the morons even use the country as an ashtray!

My experience in train travel is non-existent as I have always taken (expensive) taxis. So in trying to smarten up a bit with my travels, I decided to take the airport express train from Berlin Zoologischer Garten to Schoenefeld (SXL) for a flight to Budapest. Cost $2.40 Euros compared to $35.00 plus tip with a taxi!!! I will need to bring with me 2 carry on pieces of luggage. Is 2 pieces of carry-on luggage acceptable when traveling trains...What is the limit? Thanks everybody

Hi guys, I'm a student here in Lund in Sweden, and I'm thinking of a trip from Lund to Berlin in mid-Oct. Does anybody know how I should get there? Shall I go by train or by air? Any websites I should turn to for the traveling information? Thanks a lot. :)
