My experience in train travel is non-existent as I have always taken (expensive) taxis. So in trying to smarten up a bit with my travels, I decided to take the airport express train from Berlin Zoologischer Garten to Schoenefeld (SXL) for a flight to Budapest. Cost $2.40 Euros compared to $35.00 plus tip with a taxi!!! I will need to bring with me 2 carry on pieces of luggage. Is 2 pieces of carry-on luggage acceptable when traveling trains...What is the limit? Thanks everybody

Most trains will have an area where you can put on extra luggage next to the door as well as above your head. The limiting factor is how much stuff you can carry while boarding and exiting the train. I've had two pieces of luggage plus a carry on size, and was easily able to find room on the train, despite having another dozen people with the same amount of luggage (or more). Make sure you are all ready with the luggage in hand when the train approaches your destination - sometimes it stops for only a minute!

The train travel in Germany is fast and very efficient.
All trains have a luggage rack above the seats.
Basically you can take as much as you can carry...but 2 pieces of luggage (which I had) were easy enough to handle.
Don't forget to take down your luggage and be waiting to exit the train a few minutes before your stop....because you are expected to be ready to get off as soon as the train stops.
Have fun...

That's right as much as you can handle, because you have to be quick, the trains are on time and don't wait around. If you can handle two, that's good.
We travelled by train with 7 Suitcases, 2 Strollers and 2 Camera Bags. 2 guys looking after the suitcases and 2 women looking after the kids and strollers and their handbags. This shows you, there's no limit.

There are far fewer limits on luggage on trains than on airplanes. You can take as much you can carry onto a train, basically; there is usually A LOT more space. It isn't even an issue you should even think about, really.

As your mother says, there is nothing you can do unless she agrees, Believe me, Berlin is a weird place and I would want my 16 year old kid staying there alone. I assume whoever gave me a thumbs down has been to Berlin like I have many times. For a 16 year old kid from the UK who is obviously still tied to his mum's apron strings I would say it would be quite dangerous.
