OK I have looked at maps but want to know more about the spread of the Amazon; would it be fair to say that most of the Amazon is Brazil, and vice-versa? How much does it overlap in to neighbouring countries- is it realistically very extensive outside of Brazil?

PS are there any settlements (excluding the native tribes) actually within the forest?

I ask because I am going to Argentina in a few weeks, right up in the north between the borders of Paraguay and Brazil (near those famous waterfalls I can't pronounce, in the national park); I have been told this is heavily forested but not to the same standard as the Amazon proper- exactly how forested is it? (If I see a tarantula I will actually **** myself).

Thanks!

Personally, I am an American that would prefer we move to the metric system. Consider this question, how much is one-fourth plus one-fifth? How about this question, how much is 25 cents plus 20 cents? Was the second question easier to answer? That's the power of the metric system. Help me with my goal - The United States to use the metric system by October 10, 2010. The date that day will be 10-10-10. Did you know that the metric system is already the official measurement system of the US? Why don't we use it? It's so much easier to work with a system of 10, rather than a system of 8, 12, 36, halves, fourths and other strange numbers.
How many inches in a foot? 12. How many feet in a yard? 3.
Now, how many centimeters in a decimeter? 10 How many decimeters in a meter? 10!
Why not use a system that all the rest of the world uses, and is Soooo much easier to use?

....and you were asked to pick your method of execution which would you choose? Only those used in the US (Past and Present).

I'd go firing squad I think...quick, easy and only a very, very slim chance that it will go wrong.

PS, yeah I know it's morbid but I'm bored!

OK I am going to a wedding in July (my g-friends older sister) and I have been asked to accompany their mother, as she is divorced and the father will also be attending with his new wife.

I have been advised that the mother and father will be polite to each other, but no more than that (they haven'r laid eyes on each other in 18 years). However, the mother and new wife have a history of hostile encounters where the new wife basically provokes the mother, often leading to actual fighting.

I've been asked to lend moral support in this situation and to step in if things get ugly. Whilst it is doubtful anything will happen (happy day and all that), how should I break up any violence?

Whilst I am 'on the side' of the mother I do not want to get too physical as they are obviously both ladies (and the mother is now frail) but at the same time I do not want either getting hurt- either by each other or myself!

Ideas?

I've never understood why people make payments on something that they don't yet own when they could essentially do the same thing in a savings account and then just buy the item when they've saved enough.
