There's nothing wrong in it...but depends very much upon the way they are called 'Pakkies'...generally and very frequently, it is referred in a racial context...therefore, it has been stereotyped as being a racial comment..and most people esp. white people can't distinguish between Asians from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh etc..and if you call others as pakkies probably they would be offended coz they aren't one!!

Aussies are a more peacefule people. Obviously somewhere along the line of many yrs of fighting people called pakistanis "pakis" and it became an offensive thing for them.

I'm really surprised that you ask. Do you want to use the term yourself? Why? For shock value? To upset people and then blame them for being overly sensitive? Or is there something a bit more sinister going on? Are you worried about your own racist thoughts?
Look deeper..

because a) people call brown people paki even if they're not from pakistan, but from india...etc... b) when you say aussie you're referring to the country, whereas with paki you're referring to the colour of their skin and c) because you can't be racist to white people in a white society, if you're white yourself.
