We've lost our manufacturing base. We're losing middle America's jobs. The quality of what we get is questionable. Some of the products we get are downright inferior if not outright dangerous and the cost savings are not being passed on to the consumer. All the benefits of outsourcing seem to go to Executive Bonuses. I'm not against making money but has this gamble been worth the benefits in how its affected to this country?

Do you think there is a quality drop-off between brand products and generic products?

Do you value you the brand artwork and product style enough to pay the cost difference?

Do you think generic products are just repackaged brand products anyway?

Just curious what people thinks.
kthx.

I think buying CC's is kind of lame; it makes sense on a company scale because you dont want massive pollution. However, as Time criticizes, it's a strange way to buy your way out of guilt.

Buying CC's as charity also doesn't fit well in economics, since people are not forced to buy them. Your "donation" could mainly end up going into the pockets of a company. Is not it better to donate to help the poor?

Also, trees can sometimes trap in heat, and have their own set of problems. I dont see how buying CC's will solve our pollution problem.

I am looking for economics books written by famous economists which are controversial. I am preparing myself to an interview for Economics degree at university and I want to have some matters to discuss with my interviewer. I heard Affluent Society by Galbraith may be one of these as well as books by von Mises. Any other suggestions?
