What is the line or Lewis structure for the perchlorate ion? I have seen it w/ three double oxygen bonds and one single oxygen bond around the chlorine, four single oxygen bonds, and one that actually DETACHES the oxygen ion and separates it as an octet. Just google the perchlorate ion, and u will get the result in I think the 2nd or 3rd page. What are these all, resonance structures? They seem really weird to me.

I know how to convert grams to moles when using the same substance. However, an assignment in my chemistry packet wants to know how many moles of a substance I must have to produce a certain amount of grams of another substance.

The problem asks: How many moles of nitromethane are needed to form 500.0 grams of chloropicrin, CCl3NO2, a chemical used in the production of pesticides?

CH3NO2 (l) + 3 Cl2 (g) ---> CCl3NO2 (l) + 3 HCl (g).

How would I go about this?
