I just read that when you burn a litre of petrol (which I believe weighs about 1KG) you get 2.4KG of CO2. Clearly the volume of carbon dioxide will be enormous as its a gas but how can it weigh more than twice as much as the fuel it came from?

a) What volume of dry carbon dioxide, measured at 25 degrees celcius and 785 mm Hg, will result from the complete combustion of 2.50g of pentane?

b) The complete combustion of 5.00g of pentane releases 243 kJ of heat. On the basis of this information, calculate the value of Delta H for the complete combustion of one mole of pentane.

c) Under identical conditions, a sample of an unknown gas effuses into a vacuum at twice the rate that a sample of pentane gas effuses. Calculate the molar mass of the unknown gas.

*Pentane is C5H12 with #'s in subscripts. Pentane's molar mass is 72.15g.

Give answers and HOW to get the answers.

1.Measure the wood block with a ruler to find the length, width, and height. So you can measure the volume (0.001 cc) (v= l * w * h) to the nearest 0.01 cm.

what does that mean? give me an example problem and the answer. I mostly just don't get what i do with the 0.001 cc. Do i multiply it with the volume which is length x width x height? help please.

A mixture of magnesium and iron is treated with sulfuric acid to produce hydrogen gas and metal sulfates in solution according to the following equations:
2 Fe (s) + 3 H2SO4 (aq) --> Fe2(SO4)2 (aq) + 3 H2(g)
Mg (s) + H2SO4 (aq) --> MgSO4 (aq) + H2 (g)

When 4.413g of the mixture is treated with an excess of sulfuric acid, .2883g of hydrogen gas is collected. from this information, determine the percentage by mass of iron in the mixture.

I'd really appreciate it if you could explain to me what to do. =( I hate chem *tear*

Phosphate groups are negative at neutral pHs. Assuming an electrostatic interaction between substrate and enzyme, what specific amino acids would you expect to be in the active site? How would varying the pH in the range used here (8-12) affect the active site? In addition to the active site, what other features of the protein could be pH sensitive?

If you can help me answer any part of this question, I would greatly appreciate it!!
