i am stuck on game 3, i found the staff, put it in the chain house, but it will not roll out the chain.. the trumpet seems to serve no purpose and i can't shoot a ship without the chain

I recently bought a used PS2 memory card, and i played Silent Hill 2 with no problems at all. I had the auto-load feature on, i don't know if that makes a difference. Anyway, when i beat the game, i realized there were other games saved on the memory card from the previous owner. I deleted all their stuff, leaving on the silent hill 2 game and "system configuration". I don't know what that is, but i didn't want to delete it, just in case. Down to the point, i tried to start playing the original silent hill, for PS1 and the memory card is undetectable. It works in the browser, so i know the memory card isn't broken. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
