I think it is unfair that American idol allows back-up singers who have been PAID by major music labels as singers to participate on American Idol. Accomplished back-up singers of Melinda's stature are PROFESSIONALS in the MUSIC INDUSTRY, not amateurs, and AMERICAN IDOL IS FOR AMATEURS. Getting paid for a few gigs or for singing in a night club is one thing, but being paid to backup major recording artists and appear in their concerts and albums is another matter ENTIRELY. Also, she has access to the same producers and others in this industry that give her an unfair advantage, since they have helped her to hone her skills. I like Melinda, & I think she is just trying to "make it"; I see the fault as lying with American Idol itself. In spite of how "nice" she is, I cannot in good conscience support the advancement of Melinda, or as Randy has referred to her, "our resident pro". Who agrees with me?
