I'm only considering the "live action" movies (my rating in parentheses):
1) Batman, 1989, by Burton with Nichols as the Joker (**)
2) Batman Returns, 1992, by Burton with Pfeiffer as Catwoman and deVito as The Penguin (*****)
3) Batman Forever, 1995, by Schumacher with Carrey as The Riddler and Lee-Jones as Two Face (no stars)
4) Batman and Robin, 1997, by Schumacher with Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Thurman as Poison Ivy (utter cr-p)
5) Batman Begins, 2005, by Nolan with Bale as Batman and Watanabe as Al-Ghul (*)
IMO both Schumacher entries were sad kiddie fare, Nolan's "Begins" was long-winded and boring, the first "Batman" by Burton was good yet not great, and "Returns" is a true masterpiece although not so much a Batman movie as a psychosocial study of marginality.
You don't have to agree with me. I'd just love to hear some honest opinions.
