Urgent !! my laptop wont shut down?

please help i was on yahoo answers about 30 mins ago when it froze so i opened up windows task manager and closed it from there then my windows media player and my music folder crashed and i closed them with task manager then i got a warning sign sayingn windows explorer is not responding and it gave me 3 options restart close or wait i chose neither and left the sign running i didnt want to do anything as i thought one of them may harm my computer then i went to the task manager and shut my computer down but it has beeen at the logging off point for over 30 minutes now and i fear i have severly damaged my computer

PLEASE HELP ITS STILL AT LOGGING OFF

the wheeel is still turning so it means it is responsive

i am using windows vista home premium

Help me decide what i should focus on?

The thing is i'm described as a "gifted" child at school. I'm doing my maths gcse a year early and got A*s in my mock. I know that if i PROPERLY applied myself i could get outstanding results (all A*s) but then again i think to myself- why not get GOOD results (As and Bs) but actually go out with friends more instead of focusing totally on work. My mum obviously thinks i have to focus on education and is forcing me to study very hard but im starting to want to go out and actually have fun- who's right and who's wrong? Some days i DO see her point but some days i want to go out and be a normal teen. Do i REALLY have to get these amazing results? I'm 15, in year 10.
