It’s more than just a car accident. It’s a massive, 18-car pile-up on an interstate. John and Hugh are amongst the smoking wreckage.
Natalie’s spidey senses about John are tingling.
Bo is one of the first to be informed. Seems John was at the pile-up, the badge uncovered is proof. Bo reaches for the telephone, dialing Michael’s number.
Michael and Bo head to the scene of the pile-up, hearts sinking. They pick up on tell-tale signs of John, including his St. Jude medal. They even have to identify the charred corpse upon which the medal was found. There’s not much left of this guy to ID, other than the medal. Michael has to be the one to let his wife Marcie and his (and John’s) mom Eve know.
Eve makes tracks to Llanview, to sort through John’s things and help his brother deal with the death.
At the sound of a knock on her door, Natalie sprints over assuming, hoping it’s John coming home to her. Only, it’s Bo, and he ain’t smiling.
Bo gives Natalie THE TALK every woman in love with a cop dreads. John seemingly perished in a car wreck.
Natalie experiences deja-vu, in a series of textbook reactions afterward, disbelief, doubt, upset, anger, seeking payback to distract herself from dwelling on the loss, and then, finally acceptance.
Overwhelmed with grief and loss, Natalie flees her premises.
Spencer receives the full brunt of Natalie’s…grief and loss. She damns him to eternal hell.
Spencer feigns innocence. But all Natalie wants to do is wipe that look off his face, and kick his *** in the bargain. Antonio restrains her, for her own good.
Natalie seeks to use her skills to make sure another charge sticks—the murder of John.
Jessica tends to Natalie, feeling badly for her twin sister. There is little she can do, though.
Eve divulges to Michael and Marcie what John had prepared to do right before the pile-up happened, and it involved asking for Natalie’s hand.
Michael, Marcie and Eve feel they have no other choice but to pass this info on to Natalie.
Michael and Marcie had happened upon the engagement ring John had planned to put on Natalie’s finger. They hand over the ring to her.
Wait’ll Evangeline and Cristian hear what happened to John.
Layla tends to Evangeline, who is taking John’s passing hard.
Cristian does his share of tending to for a shell-shocked Evangeline, but he has to wrangle with his own mixed emotions about the guy who saved his life but took his woman.
In the midst of his turmoil, Cristian thinks of Natalie and how alone she must feel, having to go through yet another loss.
Cristian offers Natalie his shoulder to cry on.
But wait. Hugh got burned up pretty bad from the pile-up, as Nora is soon to hear.
Spencer also hears about Hugh’s condition, and feels compelled to see if his son is okay. This, doesn’t go well, as you can imagine.
It becomes Nora’s mission in life to a) take care that Hugh’s okay, and b) take care of Paige, by proving she’s not as guilty as previously assumed.
The only way Nash will lay down with Claudia (again, after all these harrowing years) is if he’s sloshed out of his mind. Exactly.
When Claudia sleeps the slumber of the sexually satiated but emotionally guilty, she suffers from a dream where Tess appears and reminds her that she will always be second best leftovers to Nash.
Jessica’s Tess roars out the second she finds out that Claudia and Nash boinked each other, i.e., … Jess raises her voice to an unladylike roar and strikes Claudia.
Nash can’t believe what he just saw Jessica do. Tess?
Jessica displays some of Tess’s toughness and unpredictability, which Nash picks up on immediately, and likes.
In non-John McBain matters, Cristian will stop at nothing until he uncovers the rat from his previous fight.
Antonio lends Cristian his detective services.
Todd keeps his trap shut about Vincent and keeps out of the fray. Despite Evangeline giving him a perfect opportunity – going to him for assistance on this very matter – to tell her what he overheard and chose to hold back.
Vincent waves a lot of bread at Nash, as the money guy for this coveted Llanview vineyard.
Starr hates school, and no wonder, she’s the frickin’ laughing stock because of her mom and dad’s dysfunctional adventures.
Speak of the devil.
Todd and Blair attend Parent Night for Starr. When Blair faces utter humiliation from a mean-spirited parent, Todd steps in, and steps up as her shield.
Rex and Adriana mastermind the perfect punishment for Dorian.
Seeing Dorian in such a vulnerable position while at the Palace Hotel/Grill, David springs into action as her hero.
David tempts Dorian into running away with him.
However tempted, Dorian says “No” to David. The two commiserate.
David fields a request to pursue another vocation, which piques his curiosity.
Next week: Spencer comes calling on his son, Hugh. Hugh makes the sign of the cross, to ward off the evil… Tessica shows Claudia who’s boss… The Tess Rising rattles Jessica… John’s death prompts an Eve McBain encore… Natalie handles news of John’s burning up about as well as can be expected, considering she had to go through this bullcrap before with Cristian. Calling all head shrinkers… Natalie broods about John, almost turning into John… The townsfolk of Llanview practically canonize John McBain in a special memorial… Blair revs up to do what it takes to make Todd hers again.
