Are there any brokerages in India which have on line trading process, with the availability of account information on line or at least execution of buy and sell orders via email.

As a side note I am also looking for information on foreign direct investing and business venture startups or growth in India.

Thank you for your assistance.

....the acquiring company often offers a premium. Say, the old price was $10 per share. The acquiring company will pay $15 per share. Current market price is $14. Is there an arb opportunity here, or do I have to be a holder of the stock at some past date to get the $15 per share price?

I saw some mutual funds have very high return, but the rating was low (3 stars). Who rates them and how? So does that mean high return does not mean high performance? Should I take the rating into consideration? Thanks!

I owned shares of an NYSE-traded security that executed a merger on Friday eliminating the security and issuing fractional amounts of the new security. But my shares are still in limbo because my online brokerage hasn't converted them to the new security yet. How long does this generally take?

Its incredible how some foreign indexes follow the US stock market trend, for example the Emerging Markets Index has the same pivot points as the S&P 500.

But, can the previous day in overseas stock markets, that traded when Wall Street was closes, provide some clues of the next day in the US?

I'm not eligible for my employers 401k for a year. What can I invest in in the meantime? I would like to fully invest as many pre-tax or tax deductible dollars allowed by the IRS. I believe the max on the 401k is $15,000 for 2007 but since I'm not eligible yet, am I only allowed to contribute $5,000 tax-deductible dollars to an IRA?? That doesn't seem fair.

I had sold the shares in 1994 and received the money from my broker in due course after handing over the share certificates along with the relevant Transfer Certificate(TC). However, over 12 years till date I continued to receive Dividends for the same. In 1998 I even recd. Bonus Shares (1:1) and susequently dividends for the same. Now recently I got a legal letter from a supposed buyer who got it transferred, finally after a due process of revaliditation--the reason given for the delay as misplacement. It was not a Bad delivery as he could get it trasferred with the original TC even now. Now he is demanding, thro' this letter all his rights with regards to Dividends, Bonus etc. What is his legal status? What should I do? Veterans have advised me to ignore this letter as the fault lies with the Buyer and also there might have been any No.of Buyers down the line, he being the last and knowing this he might have got tempted to make the claim. What if some other buyer crops up later on?

With the recent significant falls in the dow, is now an ok time to go forth with new investments. Is this a trend that will likely continue? Or is this something that was likely just a market correction of some type, and we are still on a good path. The new investments to which i refered are some mutual funds based in the us, some are based on companies outside of the us. Any opinions on the best, high return, slightly elevated risk, mutual fund?
