Fuel prices are going up, up, up. The industry, and middle east sources are saying on the news they we are "well supplied". Oil execs are getting $400 million severance packages, (isn't that a bit excessive?) My business is locked into a contract price so it can't go up in reflection of the cost of the fuel that my business runs on and depends on. The Israel/lebanon conflict is half a world away and no real threat to any oil producing station that I can see on any satalite map, yet, we are being squeezed even tighter at the pump where it would actually be cheaper for me to close my business than to keep it running. So why in the hell are we, the end consumer hurting and not the guys with the $400 million severance packages? Why can't they bite the bullet with a $10 million severance package?

If it's the oil companies can we dispute the charges on our credit cards and delay payments to them (100's of millions of $$$$$ if everyone gets involved) which will cause a gint size headache for them. If its the Arabs what, if anything, can we do?

Our company's doing away with two year lookback pricing because it's expensive and now has to be accounted as a hit to cash. They said "everyone's doing this" and is recommended by the consultants. Is this in fact a trend?

I am looking to incorporate a small business corporation. My accountant advised a LLP, but I am not sure if a corp. would be more prudent. Also I am vaccilating between incorporating in NJ, MD, or VA. Anyone know any major advantages to doing it one way over another??

Also, I could in theory incorporate in a state like delaware, but I am thinking that I should do it in a state where i reside or do business. Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon all. I was just wondering if there are any accountants out there that could give me insight into the world of accounting. I am currently a senior majoring in accounting with a minor in MIS. I'm working as a corporate tax intern for the summer with a fairly large corporation (NYSE listed).

How much of a leg up will I be if I can manage to get a job with one of the Big 4 firms, how do I go about putting myself in a position to land a Big 4 job, what kind of accounting interests you, what fields are most likely to pay well with experience?

I know it's a pretty broad question, but I'm just looking for insights and experiences from accountants outside of my office. Thanks

I want to start up a non-profit bottled water company. I want to give all the profits away to provide cleaning drinking water to people that need it. Someone said that a non-profit can not compete against for-profits. Is this true? Hospital's are non-profit and for-profit. Universities are non-profit and for-profit. References please! thanks for your help!
