i have heard even kids would gather scrap metal to donate to the war effort, what was different about people at that time that made this happen? I cant imagine anyone making a personal effort like that for no reason anymore. alot of people dont even bother to vote, why are we so detached now and why were people so patriotic during ww2?

I was watching a documentary about the Jewish history. It mentions that in the 1600s the Cossacks massacred the Jews in Poland. This massacre was followed by another at the hand of the Russians, then the Swedes. Can anybody tell me a brief story of those 2 massacres?

I saw a special on PBS Frontline the other day on the Siege of Bethlehem and it ended with these lines:

"NARRATOR: But this is the Holy Land. The conflict isn't over yet. Lior's last task is to mediate between three Christian orders, all of whom want to be the first to enter the Church of the Nativity.

Lt. Col. LIOR: [to monks] This is a happy day. It's a happy day. I want everybody to go behind the- [crosstalk]"

Does anyone know which order was the first to enter? The last?

first of all, i'm not very knowledgeable on this (also, i'm not from the states) so i apologize if my question will come across as too naive. basically, i like to think everything is possible for everyone as long as you're alive. so, was there any way for people to escape from the south to the north where they could get an education/decent job and live a dignified life. or if not, was there any way they could get a decent job in the south. thanx and happy holidays xxx

i bought a reproduction bicycle , it is modeled after the "Phantom" bicycle from the 1950's , its actually an exact replica not just modeled after it. i think its really neat and its something i want to ride rather then have just sit around as decoration, i dont care about collectible value or anything. my question is is it completely ridicules for an ADULT to ride a bike like that? were bikes with tanks only for younger people or did adults ride bikes like the Phantom and Cruiser Deluxe as well? also how "cool" was this bike for a boy in the 1950's i think if i would have had it as a kid i would have been THE coolest kid around haha.
P.S. the bike is very large it isn't a child's size bike.
i would love to hear any story you might have about the bike you raode as a child particularly if you had one similar to mine.

I mean did Washington, Franklin or someone else actually spend time with their family instead of working constantly to make our country a better place?

Just wondering.
