I can't answer for ALL women, I can only answer for myself.

In ancient times, the women of a defeated foe could expect such delightful experiences as rape, seeing their children killed, slavery, and just general mistreatment. Naturally, they would hope and pray for victory for their men (and the horrors of victory to be visited on the women of the enemy). Sadly, this is a pattern that has been repeated up until the present day, whether we talk of World War II or all the civil turmoil happening currently in various parts of the world.

I don't see war as romantic or glorious--it's a dirty business where a lot of good people end up dead, disabled, or at best haunted by experiences that no one should have to recall.

At the same time I believe that, in the event of an invasion of the homeland, most citizens themselves would take up arms.

To me this would be no different than a home invasion, only with a whole lot more at stake. Naturally I'd use whatever means necessary to defend my home and family, and would feel the same about preserving my freedom to go outside my home, speak my mind, vote, and wear what I choose.

In the wake of 9/11, when we all had no clue of what might next happen, there was a lot of talk about these very issues, and one woman wrote a wonderful editorial letter in our local paper in which she asserted that "the most in-your-face resistance fighters" would be women, fighting to preserve "the right to drive the car that I paid for instead of sitting in the back seat." I think she might be on to something there.

It's been said that if we don't fight in Iraq (don't ask me why we went there; wasn't bin Laden supposed to be in Afghanistan?) against extremists, we'll end up fighting them here. Maybe, or maybe not. I'm not a prophetess nor the daughter of a prophetess, so I couldn't tell anyone yea or nay on that.

What I CAN say is that an invasion might--and I fervently hope
WOULD--galvanize us out of our complacency and preoccupation with such trivia as which celebrity is dating whomever this week.

I think the comparison is there. The major difference is political and social correctness. We feel it is wrong to annihilate a country or area because of an attack or "war". That is the problem with this action going on in Middle east- we do not want to do what it would take to win this thing-so we won't win it. as far as women supporting a war- I think it will always depend on the cause of war, but most women do not want to see there husbands go off to war for anyreason- at least I would hope so. However, most women might also see the necessity of it if the situation required it and be thankful for the stand that our servicemen would be taking in defense.
But that's not how we have fought our wars. we fight our wars overseas as much as possible to avoid them coming to the homeland. Some of the reasons have been good, but others have been very bad-therefore the women and men half support half don't.
I think all cultures and times would feel the smae way-protect your land and people, and if men have to go to do that, then they will support, but not like it.

Maybe, if women would rule the world, instead of men, there would be no wars? Have you thought about that? Women (by the way) are not more pacifist than men, they have a different way of finding solutions. Not going to war but finding some compromise, or negotiations or even using force are ways men usually do not take until after a lot of bloodshed. Your question shows already antagonism towards women, try thinking positive not negative and you'll be surprised at some new perceptions you will get, on life in general and on women in particular.

Back in ancient times, war was a way of life. Spartan boys were sent away at age 7 to learn how to fight. Women back then were used to violence, their husbands, sons, and fathers were constantly fighting to keep control of what land was in their territories. It was brutal, it however was life.

In modern times, their's a higher population which means less people need to go away for war. Depending on the person, certain people are more supportive of war then men. But does anybody really want to send their husband or son away forceful by the government? It's too much patriotism for some people.

If our country was attacked, both women and men would want to protect the country.

I myself would not support the draft because I personally believe that it's not right to forcefully make people fight. Solider-slaves are not the way this country was built on. It was won by honest, hard working men who were not forced to fight, but fought because they wanted to. It goes against our countries beliefs to do that. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but I myself do not think the draft is right. So I'm a little bit pacifist, but my father agrees with me, and he is not a women.

ok... as a military spouse.. I'm supposed to say yes. Although.... I do not wave the patriotic flag just because I live on a military base. There is no way in hell I want my husband, dad, brother or son ever going back to the Middle East to fight.

Although.... if we are going to have a draft... why is it just the men who must strap on the boots and provide freedom for all.., why arent women drafted too. I would be willing to do my part.. I swear todays women are spoiled. I say this as I sit in my military home, bills paid for, kids asleep, and I goto school. Granted the military spouse is over burdened now that our soldiers are gone... but who the hell cares... Cilivilian husbands leave their wives too..... people raise their kids all the time by their lonesome everyday. What makes me so special?

Back in the days of WWI and WWII Women were drafted in a sense they went to work in factories, worked as clerks and nurses.. they kicked *** at home and at work....and RAISED KIDS

I think everyone in this country should finish High School and spend two years in the miltary doing something for this country, if they want to live here so damn bad and wave the flag. MEN AND WOMEN, I dont think everyone has to go to combat... we know that takes a certain type of person, I have the upmost respect for all them... but I know I could push a pencil for two years, while gaining college credit...BAM get out and I only have two to three left of college,.get a job and then I can say I waved the FLAG.

So.... yea.. draft them all!

"If our country was attacked"PERIOD
Any patriot (and patriot means everyone that include women without a Q) would support regardless of being WRONG or RIGHT.
