what is the present value of $10,000 you will receive in 5 years with an expected rate of interest of 8%, if discounted a) quarterly and b) continuously

a)
.08/12 = .0066

5 years = 60 months

PV = 10,000(1.0066/4)^4*60

b)
PV = 10,000 * e^(.08 * 5)

are those correct? thanks in advance to anyone helping me with this.

(cos(^2)x)cosecx = cosecx - sinx

Note: the (cos(^2)x) is cos squared times x not cos to the power 2x.

I can see how differentiating works (setting the derivative = to 0). But apparently that only gives the "possible" points? How would I know with there is local extrema at those x-values? When would it be incorrect?
