When is the right age to actively teach children gun saftey?

The only reason I ask is I was thinking about buying my nephew a .22 Rifle for Christmas. His dad is a hunter and he wants to be just like his dad.

Ive spoken with My sister and his Dad and they agree that would be a perfect gift for him.

His Dad has a gun safe and of course it would stay locked up. He would never get the chance to use it without his fathers supervision.

Without telling you his age when is the right time age wise? Is it the sooner the better or should I wait?

What do you think about giving a 5 year old his first .22 Rifle for Christmas?

I thought this would be a wonderful gift for my Nephew. My sister and his dad agreed. Its a short gun made for a youth. And its not like he would ever get to "play" with it. They are totally responsible parents and have a locked gunsafe in their closet.

My girlfriend thinks this is the most terrible idea shes ever heard of. I believe thats because shes ignorant. She never grew up with guns and has never been hunting. She is certain hes going to get to play with it. To be fair she said its not because hes ever going to get to play with it but "What if?"

He carried his BB gun around for about 5 months without a BB in it! He needs to learn gun saftey sooner or later. Why would this be a terrible idea?

I would like some tips from hunters as well as you Moms that have a preconceived answer. 'GUNS ARE BAD' If hes going to end up hunting in the future wouldnt it be a great idea to get him learning safety now?

Nintendo All-Stars TCG!!??

If Nintendo made another TCG next to Pokemon, would you buy it? I would! The game must include EVERY Nintendo character past and present (Mario, Link, DK, Wario, etc.), excluding Pokemon (they're on their own TCG) and also excluding characters who do not belong to the Nintendo company (Sonic, Solid Snake [I don't want to see him again in the next Smash Bros game after Brawl], Cloud, Master Chief, Crash, etc). And It would play kind of like VS System mixed in with Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh! What do you think? Buy or Pass?
