I really need help with this show...what the !@#$ is going on, I just started watching it this season...does it make sense to go back aand watch season 1 & 2...it iseems that it would confuse me even more, is their a point ot this show, or is it going to be a dream like that entire season of Dallas???

I purchased the first season about 6 mo ago and have enjoyed it thorougly. I have many episodes(from all four seasons) on tape that I recorded when it was on tv many years ago, but needless to say the vcr tapes are pretty much shot and I would like to watch quality ones.

Is it for dramatic effect? I know they can't use the transporter with the shields up but they only use that when they orbit a planet. When they're in between star bases in deep space they see a vessel and give the order to raise shields. Why? Do shields drain too much power to leave on all the time or what?
